Iqbal introduces his notion of Khudi,
or selfhood. Arising from a desire to
awaken the society he makes the individual
conscious of his / her vital role for social
uplift. His Khudi is the
consciousness by the individual of the
divine attributes embedded in his / her soul
by the Creator. Thus, he inspires the
individual to strive to rise to godly
qualities for the sake of helping out God’s
creatures to have a better life. He expects
the individual to be like Shaheen, the eagle
whose personal needs are minimal but who is
fully aware of his role in the kingdom of
birds. Likewise, Iqbal wishes the individual
to be continuously proactive like a wave in
the ocean. He says that if the wave decides
to be passive it no longer remains alive.
